Kitchen design board

We are full swing into the renovation! The kitchen has been demoed, the arch is built and the new drywall is up. Now for the designing! This is everything I’ve been waiting for after thousands of hours of HGTV, haha! Lance has been kind enough to let me take the reins, acknowledging that this has been my life long dream. I’m still getting his input and taking into consideration his style (such as his opposition to white on white on white – there will always be some compromises) but ultimately I think I get the last word, ha!

I knew from the beginning I wanted clean white shaker cabinets and a white subway tile back splash. I had a brief moment of doubt where I was considering light gray cabinets, but went back to white because of its timelessness and versatility. We are keeping the original hardwood throughout the main floor, but it didn’t extend into the kitchen, which was tiled. We decided we’d do a tile again instead of trying to match the hardwood. While the kitchen will be open to the dining room, the new archway between the two spaces will create a natural transition. Originally I was considering a slate gray floor but I started to get white on gray fatigue after seeing it in so many modern homes. Then I came across this and decided I had to have a matte black floor in the kitchen! (Shout out to carpendaughter, one of my new favs for design inspo). I love the contrast of the black with the white cabinets and the geometric pattern in an otherwise simple design, and black matte hardware will tie everything together. Leaning toward this white apron front sink from Kohler, but I also love this beautiful undermount Blanco sink featured on A House We Built. So many choices!

Wall color is a hard part of an open floor plan. I’d like white walls in the kitchen, but Lance really wants something non-white, if even just light gray, in the main living space. I think it would be weird to have different colors with the open layout? So we’ll probably settle on a very light gray. I’m so excited to start seeing it come together!
