New Windows & Kitchen Progress

I am so in love with our new windows. When we opened up the kitchen, we needed to move the windows because the ones in the former breakfast nook, which is now just part of the kitchen, were below counter height. All of the main floor windows in our house are original, with the leaded grid style classic of the period. We wanted to maintain the character, but it is hard to find windows in this style made today. Extensive research led me to a local shop that makes custom windows in this style. Instead of making a grid out of smaller pieces of glass, they apply the decorative leading over the window, on both sides, with another piece in between the double pain to give the appearance of a leaded grid. These custom windows had a long lead time, so we had make shift windows out of Plexiglas in the interim (definitely not energy efficient!). Of course renovations take double the time you expect, so turned out the windows arrived before the kitchen was done, which was good since we were worried about having them holding up the project.

These custom windows were a splurge, but definitely worth it. They instantly bring character to the space, and match perfectly with the rest of the windows in the house. Also, they are a lot more energy efficient.

You can see our kitchen is still very much under construction, but the floor is finished and the cabinet bases are installed! The cabinet fronts are arriving tomorrow, and back splash tiling should begin soon. We also have the quartz counter top ordered and it should be arriving in a week or so. Once all that is installed, the rest of the space should come together quickly as it’s mainly just installing the appliances and that point! I still need to pick out lighting fixtures (we want a pendant or chandelier above the stair case) and hardware. I’ll share some more progress pics soon!
